A Company of Fools
A Company of Fools is auditioning for 2 shows

AUDITION #1 - A Midwinter's Dream Tale - Chorus Members

The Fools are seeking emerging artists to fill out the members of our fairy chorus. Living somewhere between a Greek chorus and the all-singing and dancing line of the rockettes, our fairy chorus will torment two clowns as they attempt to navigate the perils of a winter wonderland.

Non-Equity artists sought; there is a small, pathetic pittance of an honorarium offered as well as training from Emmanuelle Zeesman and Scott Florence in movement, voice and clown.

Audition date is Thursday December 4, between 11 AM and 7 PM.

Auditions will last approximately 45 - 60 minutes long. You are asked to prepare a short (6 - 10 lines) speech from Shakespeare, and a short song that can be sung acappella. After you have been seen as an individual, we will bring you in to work with a group of people. Come dressed and prepared to move.

To book an audition, contact scott@fools.ca and indicate if you have a preference for being seen before 2 PM, between 2 and 5, or after 5 PM. Please bring a photo and resume to the audition.

AUDITION #2 - Tempest in a Teapot Replacement required

The Fools are seeking either a man or a woman to replace Emmanuelle Zeesman in Tempest In A Teapot for a 1 week run at the Mainline Theatre in Montreal, February . There will be a limited amount of rehearsal time in preparation during the month of February (details TBA.)

Equity artists will be contracted under an appropriate contract; non-Equity artists are also welcome to apply.

Artist must be an excellent singer and have a good sense of fun and play. You can view part of the show Tempest in a Teapot on the web at www.fools.ca. Emmanuelle plays the role of Miranda. We are considering cross-casting - so boys, if you've always wanted to be a princess, now is your chance.

Auditions will take place Saturday December 6, times TBA.

To book an audition, please send a headshot and resume to scott@fools.ca. Only those artists we wish to see will be contacted regarding an audition.

The 2009 Season at Cube Gallery

Submission Deadline Friday Dec. 5 for the following shows:

March
The Canadian Portrait Today
(3 - 5 artists)

portrait~noun: a likeness of a person, esp. of the face, as a painting, drawing, or photograph. A show that celebrates the art of the portrait - and asks the question "What is the status of the Canadian portrait today?"

April /May
Water
(3 - 5 artists)

water~noun: a transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid, a compound of hydrogen and oxygen, H2O, freezing at 32°F or 0°C and boiling at 212°F or 100°C, that in a more or less impure state constitutes rain, oceans, lakes, rivers, etc. It contains 11.188 percent hydrogen and 88.812 percent oxygen, by weight. A special form or variety of this liquid, as rain. The surface of a stream, river, lake, ocean, etc.: above, below, or on the water. Any media as long as it strikes the theme.

May/June
Best of Montréal
(5 - 8 artists)

Some of the best works and artists from one of the capitals of art and our "sister" city, Montréal. Know any brilliant Montréal artists who may be interested?

Submission Deadline Friday Feb. 6, 2009 for the following shows:
July
Canadian Homage
(20-30 artists)

A group show of "one-offs." Each artist will create an original work that is an homage to a CANADIAN artist who has been an important influence on them. "Something done or given in acknowledgment or consideration of the worth of another." This is permission to "rip off" another artist's style in the form of an honour to them. The name of the artist that is being forged will be hidden on each label so that patrons will have to guess who is being acknowledged in each piece. This should be fun. Who's your daddy/mommy? (Please Note - for this show just tell me the artist you intend to Homage - and provide one or two examples of the style you will use

September
Photo-Based Paintings
(5 - 8 artists)

This show is about a merging of aspects of modernity (photography) and tradition (painting). One of the cutting edge genres in contemporary art today is a combination of photography and painting. The artists' use of both media asks the viewer to consider what is original and what is representational, what is real and what is not, what is tradition and what is modern.

November
A Call to Arms
(10 - 15 artists)

A group show of art that address the politics of the day. We will entertain submissions from artists who are overtly political for this show, from pointed illustrations and cartoons, to painters of ecological landscapes and abstract revolutionaries. Surprise us. Do not be afraid to be political for this show - people who say politics has no place in art are themselves being "political" by telling artists to just "shut up" in the face of the wars raging around us. Paulo Freire said,"Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral." Art as political protest can probably be traced back to the very beginnings of art itself. It seems a natural and almost inevitable expression for an artist to give commentary and opinion on the events and people of our time. As a form of protest against injustice, inhumanity or inequality, visual art can be particularly effective.

December
Great Big Smalls V - The Christmas Show
(40- 60 artists)
Another seasonal group show of small works with BIG heart. Get your bids in early - this show has been a huge success every year. Just getting bigger and better.

Le Programme d'art public
Demande de propositions

INTRODUCTION

The University of Ottawa
Arts Administration Internship Program

The Arts Administration program also offers strategic internships to its students. The University of Ottawa has trained cultural administrators since 1981. The program alumni have since become prominent administrators on the local, national and international cultural scenes.

Arts Administration students receive solid administration training with specialization in the management of cultural organizations. They study the operations of cultural organizations as well as the socio-political and economical environments within which these organizations operate. The students meet and work with key administrators from the local and national cultural scenes. Topics such as fund raising for the arts, audience development and cultural marketing taught by recognized professional arts administrators constitute strong elements of the curriculum.

An internship consists of a minimum of 150 volunteer hours for the organization interested in mentoring an arts administration student.

If you are a program alumna, if you are interested in mentoring students in your field of expertise or if your organization would like to offer an internship opportunity to our future arts administrators, please contact the program coordinator Ms Chantal Rodier at chantal.rodier@sympatico.ca
