Call For Designs
2012 marks the fifth year of the Prix Rideau Awards and to celebrate this important milestone, we are sending out a call for design of a new Rideau statuette.
Founded in 2006 to celebrate, encourage and promote French and English locally produced
professional theatre and its artists through an annual awards gala, the Prix Rideau Awards fosters artistic excellence and promotes communication between both theatrical communities. Currently, the awards handed out are framed certificates, but as our organization matures, we are looking to celebrate our artists through an award, be it a statuette or trophy, that is itself a work of art.
The following criteria should be considered when submitting a design concept:
- size;
- affordability;
- although design should reflect theatre and our mandate, we discourage designs that are kitsch or cliché. We are looking for a classic design that can be produced year after year;
- sustainability of materials - the statues should be built to last;
- there must be a designated area to include small plaque for award details;
- ease at which the design can be reproduced.
We are aiming to present a prototype of the winning design during the April 2012 awards ceremony. The new awards will then be presented to winners during the April 2013 awards ceremony. In addition to being credited with the award design, the winner will receive an honorarium. Copyright of the award will be maintained by the Prix Rideau Awards.
Submissions must be sent by Friday, January 27, 2012 and should include sketches, colours, list of materials, design specs and/or a model.
Submit to:
Les Prix Rideau Awards
P.O. Box 1087
Stn. B
Ottawa, K1P 5R1
We are very excited to launch this initiative and look forward to your submissions. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact us:

- la taille;
- le coût;
- le concept doit rappeler le théâtre et notre mandat, mais évitez le kitsch et les clichés. Nous sommes à la recherche d'un concept classique qui puisse être réutilisé année après année;
- la durabilité des matériaux - les statuettes doivent durer;
- il faut un espace réservé à l'apposition d'une petite plaque contenant les détails du prix;

OAC's Theatre Creator Reserve Program
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Writing or Creating a New Play?
The Great Canadian Theatre Company invites theatre artists and collectives to submit an application to the Ontario Arts Council's Theatre Creators' Reserve Program
DEADLINE: applications must be RECEIVED by Friday, December 16, 2011
What is the OAC's Theatre Creators' Reserve Program?
The Theatre Creators' Reserve Program is a third-party recommender program that provides theatre project grants to professional artists and collectives based in the province of Ontario. GCTC will assess applications on the basis of the funding priorities identified by GCTC. Artists can request a minimum of $1000.00 and a maximum of $5000.00.
What are the grants for?
The program is meant to deliver money to playwrights/creators to "buy time" to work on new creation. Although artists who receive funding are under no obligation to GCTC, the program is meant to encourage relationships between theatre companies and creators. The program aims to reflect the range of artistic practices in the theatre community and to support excellence, regional activity, cultural diversity and Aboriginal identity.
Who is eligible?
Professional theatre artists or informal collectives based in the province of Ontario.
Who or what is ineligible?
· Organizations, whether incorporated or not, are not eligible.
· Production or workshop costs are not eligible. Please note: if the proposed piece is created collectively through a devised process, those costs are considered eligible.

· Equipment costs such as computers or printers are ineligible.
· Professional expenses such as translation and dramaturgy are not eligible.
· Creation of non-theatre work is not eligible.
· Applicants who have outstanding reports for previously awarded OAC grants are not eligible
What are GCTC's priority funding areas?
GCTC will give priority to applications from playwrights and collectives based in Ottawa. We will also consider applications from artists who originate from Ottawa. GCTC will assess the applications on the basis of artistic quality. We will also give higher priority to work that reflects GCTC's mandate for theatre "that provokes examination of Canadian life and our place in the world". If you would like to know more about GCTC and the kind of work that we produce, please visit our website: www.gctc.ca
How do I apply?
