Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre

Ottawa Arts Investments

May 1st 2006

The first three months of 2006 have seen progress on arts investment in Ottawa. The City of Ottawa budget included increased operational funds for arts funding and an allocation to move forward on an Arts Investment Strategy. Capital investments included funding for the purchase of art, partnerships with facility developments and building and equipment improvements.

In the Ontario Provincial Budget, $11.6 million was identified for three capital projects; the Elgin Street Concert Hall, the new Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre and Orleans Arts Centre.

The federal budget will be delivered on Tuesday, May 2. Although specific details related to cultural spending will most likely not be highlighted, there should be some indication of cultural spending in the detailed budget papers released shortly after the budget.
