Choreographer and Artistic Director Anik Bouvrette receives 2007 CAO Mid-Career Artist Award

The Council for the Arts in Ottawa is pleased to announce that choreographer Anik Bouvrette has been selected as the recipient of the 2007 CAO Mid-Career Artist Award, which includes a $1,000 cash prize.

"Anik has reached a pivotal point in her artistic career," says Nichole McGill, local author, CAO Board Member and Chair of the Awards Sub-Committee. "In addition to her success in her own artistic practice, she is now taking steps to establish a new contemporary dance company. Anik is an artist who will have an impact on our community for years to come."

Anik Bouvrette has been active in Ottawa's contemporary dance community for the past thirteen years. In addition to her work as a dancer and choreographer, she has also been active as a teacher of creative dance for children and contemporary dance for youth. Anik recently established her own contemporary dance company, Tara Luz Danse. In addition to showcasing Anik Bouvrette's works, Tara Luz Danse is equally devoted to undertaking artistic outreach projects at local schools and to producing works of other mid-career dance artists in Ottawa.

"I am honoured to have been chosen as the recipient of this award. It truly recognizes the contribution I have made so far in this city," says Anik. "I have always been committed to working as an artist in Ottawa and now to forming my company here. This recognition comes at an important time in my career and it will help to stimulate the next stage of my development."
